Description:

The twins of Zeus returned to Thebes to kill Lycus and Dirce and take command of the city. Hermes forbade the twins from killing Lycus, although he forced Lycus to give them Thebes. Amphion marries Niobe, daughter of Tantalus. Zethus married Thebe.

Some Thebans, wishing to see the line of Cadmus continue, smuggled the young Laius out of the city before their attack, in which they killed Lycus and took the throne. Laius was welcomed by Pelops, king of Pisa.
