16 nov 1774 - First Continental Congress

Description:

Response to overall British Tyranny, but could be argued especially to the Intolerable Acts. This was a congressional meeting of all (except Georgia) the colonial states to discuss their grievances. They sent a diverse cast of political views. They did this to formulate an official colonist position on British relations. They agreed on a list of laws they wanted to be repealed and to boycott British goods until their demands were met. Also, I don't know if I understand this fully, but they also agreed on a set of specific powers that they agreed parliament could have, but the others were up to the colonists, which represented a step towards greater independence. Throughout the next few years this group expanded their power.
