Description:
According to Arrian, who was a scholar in the time of Alexander the Great, Alexander grabbed the Gordion knot in an attempt to untie it. Alexander was said to have wrestled with the knot to no avail. He was then said to have stepped back, drawn his sword, and cut the knot clean in half with a single stroke.
