1 janv. 1870 - Despite their hard work, Chinese immigrants generally remained underpaid. Many were treated poorly in their jobs and communities. As the Chinese presence grew in the United States, so did anti-Chinese discrimination. Some of this hostility was due to ethnic and cultural prejudices. In the late 1870s, anti-Chinese legislation passed in California and in Congress.
