1 janv. 1833 - Removal from the Black Hawk Purchase

Description:

Sauk and Meskwaki required to leave Black Hawk Purchase (including CCCC and the rest of eastern Washington) in 1833:

In the fall following the Black Hawk War, the United States demanded almost 10,000 square miles from the Sauk and Meskwaki as a penalty for having resisted removal from northwestern Illinois. They and any other Native Americans in this area were given until June 1, 1833 (just over a year) to remove themselves. The western boundary of the Black Hawk Purchase was just 1-2 miles beyond CCCC, so those removed from the area of the land cession may have come to the two Sauk and Meskwaki settlements just north of and west of here.
