February 9, 1861: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas all met in Alabama to form a new government: Confederate States of America, with Jefferson Davis as the president. The Confederacy forming was a huge part in the Civil War because without it, the Union would not have to fight against the South because there would be no military to fight against.
