Description:

On April 9th, Major General John Gordon and Confederate troops tried a last minute offensive attack that was successful. Later however, the Confederates saw that they were outnumbered by Union soldiers. Realizing that there were no more options, Lee sent message to General Ulysses Grant that he was willing to surrender. They met in from of the Wilmer McLean house and wrote up the terms of the surender.
