Abraham Lincoln was the President who led the country through the Civil War. He was assassinated in 1865 and Andrew Johnson, his Vice President took over.This is important because Abraham Lincoln was working on Reconstruction before he died. When Johnson took over, all the work Lincoln did was ruined because Johnson wanted to take a different approach.
