-Jackson was favored, but didn't get a majority vote, so Congress had to decide
-Adams and Clay made a deal
-Clay would convince Congress to choose Adams in exchange for being Secretary of State
-Adams wins election, Clay is Secretary of State
-Outraged Jackson supporters
