2 mars 1887 - Tensions between Grover Cleveland and the Senate over the removal power
Description:
President Grover Cleveland replaced a Republican district attorney in Alabama with a Democrat. Republicans in the Senate requested documents related to the removal of the district attorney and the Cleveland administration did not comply. In response to Cleveland’s claim for an exclusive right to remove officers without Senate consent they delayed Supreme Court appointments in response. The disagreement led to the repeal of the Tenure of Office Act on March 3, 1887.
