28 mai 1867 - The Purchase of Alaska
Description:
Both Great Britain and Russia claimed Alaska until Russia decided to fully control the territory for seal hunting; however, as the British threatened to take over the land, this territory imposed an economic issue on Russia. They sought out for individuals to purchase the land and found William H Seward of New York who suggested that the United States wanted to purchase this territory. The Russians supported this idea and Congress decided to purchase Alaska for 72 point $1,000,000 in 1867 which many Americans saw as useless and called it “Seward's Folly.
