Description:

Conflicts in the late 19th century between the many native groups and the massive number of settlers, and consequesntly U.S. troops, who suddenly moved into their land. Because of the conflicts, the U.S. attempted to isolate the natives into reservations, but more conflict arose after gold was found on their lands. Again, more conflicts occurred after the Indian Appropriation Act of 1871 that made it so tribes of natives could no longer be independent nations. The slaughter of the majority if the bison population would also make returning to the plains way of life impossible.
