Description:
In 1893 the stock market crashed due to over speculation and as well as dozens of railroads going into bankruptcy because of over building. This depression went on for around 4 years and caused farm foreclosures to reach new highs as well as unemployment to reach 20% of the workforce. This led to many people relying on soup kitchens and rail riding like hobos. President Cleveland added to deal with this crisis by championing the gold standard.
