1 janv. 1695 - Slave Codes
Description:
Virginia and Carolina passed slave codes restricting black people's rights because white people feared rebellion. Therefore, African Americans were forced to work under very harsh conditions and punishments. Slaves were not allowed to own weapons, join militias, or meet in groups. The consequences for resisting were severe, such as whipping, mutilation and death.
