Description:
The Greenback party was a political party formed in support of paper money. It was created due since northern farmers used greenbacks to prosper during the Civil War. Greenbacks were then taken away with Specie Resumption Act by Congress as they sided with creditors. Greenback candidates received almost $1,000,000 with 14 numbers other party being elected to Congress and the congressional election of 1878. The party soon died out during the 1870s, however; the goal to increase the money supply did not go away.
