2 févr. 1848 - Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo/Mexican Cession
Description:
Upon losing the war, the Mexican government was forced to agree to the terms of the US. The Treaty of Guadalupe was one of these terms, and it provided for two main matters. The first was that the Rio Grande was recognized as the Texas southern border by México. The second was that México would cede their New México and California territories to the US (called the Mexican Cession) in exchange for $15 million and the responsibility assumption of any claims against México by US citizens. The treaty was ratified by the Senate regardless of opposition by both the North and South.
