The culmination of the Apollo 11 mission, and with the piloting of Michael Collins (rest in peace), Armstrong and Aldrin were the first men to set their feet on the moon.

Not only did the samples and data collected advanced astronomy so far, but it also got us the win in the Space Race. We won against the Russians (in a sort of fun and science-advancing way), which sort of ended this accelerated advancement of space-fareing technology that happened in the 1960s.
