- Adult comedy that would heavily push boundaries on what could be aired on TV
- Featured cynical and edgy humour (whether they age well is a mixed bag) with characters and plots that would have been considered controversial in previous decades.
- The tone of the plots could turn to more serious and melancholy in some episodes, making some of the cynical jerk characters more sympathetic.
- While shows like this are a dime a dozen today, back in the 90s this was considered unique.
