Description:

On August 6th and later on August 9th, the U.S. dropped atomic bombs in heavily populated cities in Japan. Rather than invading the mainland, Truman decided to have the bombs dropped and ‘save more lives’. The bombs targeted cities with military industries along with ports and airfield that were utilized by the military. With upwards of 200,000 causalities (many suffering from exposure to radiation) and the threat of a third bomb targeting the capital city, Japan was forced to surrender.
