Description:

Occurring on February 19th of 1945, the US had a very strategic advancement on the island of Iwo Jima. The battle was used on the U.S.’s island hopping campaign across certain islands in the Pacific. The island already had an airfield that was occupied by the Japanese until the U.S. took control over it and were able to use the airfield as one of their own, putting the U.S. in bombing range of Japan’s mainland.
