Description:

While popular centuries before, foot binding regained popularity during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was seen as further making women small and dainty, which was attractive to men of the day. Popular among the wealthy, it soon spread to lower classes, in the hopes it would help in arranging marriages to boost social status.
