Description:

In 1890, a new law passed in Louisiana called the “separate car act” that required for separate accommodations for both Black and whites on the railroads. Plessy, who was of mixed race required to sit in the black car. Plessy then decided to buy a first class ticket on the ‘white car' and was then arrested because of it. He soon went to court for his actions and the verdict ruled that he did not violate the 14th amendment.
