14 mai 1955 - Creation of Warsaw Pact

Description:

Description: The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance signed by The Soviet Union and seven of its European satellite states that put the Soviets in command of the armed forces of the satellite states. The treaty called upon member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside force, and it set up a unified military command under the Soviet Union.
Significance: Created an organization that united communist countries, furthering the spread and strength of the ideology. With the Soviets in charge, communism had a strong foothold in Eastern Europe and now had multiple countries serving as a backbone to their policies that could be used to defend against the recently created NATO policies.
