Lenin decided to sign a Sovnarkom decree to implement a “new” calendar called the Gregorian Calendar in Soviet Russia for February 1918. By dropping dates from the “old” Julian calendar of February 1st - 13th 1918, February 1918 only had 15 days becoming the shortest February in history! The Russian Orthodox Church had been using the Julian Calendar but since the Church was seen as an ally of the Tsars, it could be a reason why Lenin decided to change the calendar for Soviet Russia.
