Description:

Vignar and Gudrune's solution
_____________________________________

At some point in time during Gondul's trek through Coldharbour, Vignar and Gudrune met on a road in Morrowind.

Through her protest, Vignar spoke with her. She told him about her being discharged from the Ruby Brotherband and her disagreement with Gondul — as well as what had happened to Rowena.

Vignar was intent on saving Rowena same as everyone else, but Gudrune knew that without the soul gem that Gondul had, they were obligated to work with him.

Vignar mentioned that he could speak to the Daedric Lord Hircine in an attempt to have him pull her soul from the black soul gem and place it into a soulless entity. It would require a human sacrifice, however. Gudrune at first adamantly refused to permit an innocent life to be taken.

She offered herself in sacrifice. Vignar quickly interjected, explaining that she will not die, but transform. In sacrificing herself to Hircine to pluck Rowena's Soul from the gem, she would inevitably contract Lycanthropy.

After a brief discussion and an unwillingness to change her mind, they both agreed to this plan. Vignar did not want this, but he felt he simply could not rely on hope when time was so precious — something they both felt Gondul was inclined to do in his obsession with fighting Molag Bal and Mannimarco to avenge his fallen brothers.

Hircine is the Daedric Prince whose spirit is the hunt; the sports of Daedra; the greatest game and the chase and sacrifice of mortals. He is known by the titles 'The Huntsman of the Princes', 'The Father of Manbeasts' and 'The Hungry Cat' to Khajiits. The summoning date of Hircine is the 5th of Mid Year. He is also the creator of Lycanthropy.

Hircine has caused many Scholars to argue. He himself was never mentioned nor heard of in the early histories of Nirn. Some scholars believe because of this that Hircine was not one of the original Daedric Princes, and is therefore a spawn or offshoot, similar to Malacath.

However this is often shunned on account of Hircine creating Lycanthropes, and the disease existing as far back as the Merethic Era. Hircine also appears within the mortal realm once every thousand years; not to destroy, like most princes, but to enjoy a great hunt known as the Bloodmoon Prophecy.

Daedric Princes are almost always looked on as being evil due to their destructive nature. While there is some truth in this, this does not apply to all Princes. Some Princes respect honor and fairness among their subjects, and are against dishonorable acts. Hircine is typically considered to be in this category. While he cannot exactly be seen as benevolent, he is very honorable and always gives his prey a sporting chance.

He's even willing to be congratulatory to those who were deemed as prey if they manage to turn the hunt to their favor and become the hunters in turn. He is not needlessly destructive like many of his Daedric brethren. With those he does not care for he is often neutral in his trades, unless they are his prey.

It is unclear if Hircine has the ability to dabble in the transfer of souls from one entity to another in exchange for a human sacrifice in his name, but Vignar and Gudrune were willing to ask this of him in an attempt to save Rowena.

Lycanthropy (also known as Sanies Lupinus in Morrowind) is a disease that causes the victim to transform into a were-creature and is generally contracted by being bitten by a pre-existing one.

All races can contract Lycanthropy — however, Argonians and Bosmer are somewhat resistant because of their inborn, passive resistance to disease.

Lycanthropy itself was created by Hircine, who now serves as the guardian of the people infected with Lycanthropy. This disease gives the infected a bloodlust, meaning they must kill every time they transform. It is believed that a cure for this disease exists in the Glenpoint foothills of High Rock.
