Lily was now seventeen years old and she is having her own Sitting and Singing before her wedding that would happen a month later. When her groom's family sent her family a water buffalo, Lily's father became one of the three most prosperous men in their village. During her Sitting and Singing, Lily's aunt, mother, Snow Flower, sister-in-law, and a few unwed girls from her village came to celebrate her good fortunes.
