manders hurriedly left the front and went to Gulyai-Polye,
where they were awaited by the Extraordinary Pleni-
potentiary of the Republic, L. Kamenev, who had arrived
from Khar'kov with other representatives of the Soviet gov-
ernment. At the Verkhnii Tokmak station, Makhno saw a
poster with the words: "Death to Jews, Save the Revolution,
Long Live Batko Makhno.
