Johnson becomes president after Lincoln is shot at Fords theater. Because Johnson was a democrat and did no see eye to eye and that led to congress trying to impeach him. Johnson barely escaped impeachment by one vote. Johnson was also the only senator in congress who was representing a confederate state and did not quit office when secession started.Born: December 29, 1808, Raleigh, NC
