After an emotionally riveting encounter with Vignar and Gudrune, where Vignar gave Gondul the vampiric blood that might have saved Rowena's body from decay — as well as leaving the Brotherband with Gudrune to raise their child in the wilderness with their pack — Gondul rode out to a nearby field outside of Riften to contemplate his next course of action.

After hours of painful, silent debate with his lover, whose voice resided within his mind, she urged him to forgive himself, and that he only did what he thought was right.

Accepting the reality of the situation, that the vampiric blood may not even work in preserving Rowena's lifeless body — and Gondul not wanting to subject his love to a curse from the same Daedric Prince that had taken his soul — the lovers agreed to discard the blood, considering it a sacrifice to Vignar and a symbol of redemption through acceptance.
