6 févr. 1919 - Weimar Republic

Description:

The Weimar Republic was founded on the 9th of November 1918 and was Germany’s government from February 6th 1919 to 1933 which was the period just after World War I before Nazi Germany. The name Weimar originated from the town where Germany’s government was formed after Kaiser Wilhelm II resigned. The Weimar Republic was established to give proper power to all German adults, it was a representative democracy. The Republic had flaws though that lead to its downfall. These flaws were due to the want for a system with proportional representation which made it very difficult for a single party to ever achieve a majority which would lead to a rule by the coalitions, this heavily affected the sense of “equality for all German adults” they were promised. The laws also allowed the President the power to suspend civil rights and “rule by decree.” The Republic affected citizens mindsets bringing forward-thinking but also caused weaknesses such as economic hardship and ‘moral decay.’ Weimar caused Hyperinflation too which left Germany incapable to pay war debts. The uproar that said debts from the Treaty of Versailles had brought combined with the inability to pay them was what caused Hitler to be elected and then eventually to World War 2.
