Growing up in Atmora, Gondul believed in the Atmoran Pantheon, known in Tamriel as the 'Ancient Nordic Pantheon,' — the hawk, wolf, snake, moth, owl, whale, bear, fox, and the dragon.
He was raised by a Bear Priest named Markus, and studied the pantheon under him. Despite never having a devout faith in the animal Gods, Gondul did once undergo a religious experience during a hunting trip with his friends Norrin and Guilidus that reaffirmed his belief in the pantheon.
However, after his arrival in Tamriel, where he experienced magic, mysticism and the many other races of Tamriel, his faith seemed to become slowly irrelevant to him.
After reading many books and learning of the Aedra, the Daedra, and the et'Ada — as well as the belief that the Atmoran pantheon were possibly totemic representations of several Et'Ada, some of which were present in the pantheon of the Eight Divines, he began to question his beliefs.
Following the death of his newfound lover Rowena, Gondul unofficially converted to believing in the Eight Divines, the same faith she professed. He was found praying before the fountain where he had first met Rowena shortly before the march on Cyrodiil.
