29 févr. 1968 - Kerner Commission Report

Description:

In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson established a special commission of 11 people, known as the Kerner Commission, whose purpose was to analyze the primary causes of racism and the trends towards violence and rioting. In 1968, the commission released its report, condemning racism as "the primary cause of the recent surge of violence" in the nation. In addition, the report declared that "our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white—separate and unequal,”. In order to try and prevent this change from becoming permanent, the commission demanded the expansion of economic aid for African American communities.
