While in Windhelm, Gondul stumbled upon an Ebonheart Pact envoy named Murilam Dalen. He admires Gondul's capable appearance, directing him to Thane Mera Stormcloak, who was seeking aid.

Upon speaking with the Thane, she explains the Konunleikar has brought the Stormfist clan back to Windhelm — a clan led by King Jorunn's twin brother, Fildgor. Where once they were united in the fight to repel the Akiviri invaders, after the death of Queen Nurnhilde, they became rivals for the throne. Jorunn was chosen to be King over Fildgor.

Thane Mera tasks Gondul with finding information on the Stormfists around Windhelm. After awhile of searching, Gondul returns to her with damning proof. She proceeds to task Gondul with filling in for her wounded champion for a race around the city walls.

During the race, Gondul finds one of the competitors fatally wounded by a poison arrow. He explains that the perpetrators fled south. Gondul swiftly brings the news to Thane Mera, who is furious. She temporarily grants Gondul the title of Justice Carl of Windhelm, so that he may kill the perpetrators with impunity.

Gondul proceeds to the camp, where he kills the Stormfists hiding there. He brings a note he recovered from the camp back to Thane Mera, who recognizes it as Fildgor's. It proved that he had returned to Skyrim.

The final event of the Konunleikar was soon to begin. Thane Mera ordered guards to head for the Stormfist camp, asking Gondul to go to the Hall and protect the King.
