17 mai 1954 - Brown v Board of Education Decision

Description:

A landmark supreme court decision that unanimously decided that separate but equal was inherently unequal, which overruled Plessy v Ferguson. This decision came after the NAACP took the case of Linda Brown who wanted to enroll in her local school in Topeka, Kansas but could not because it was reserved for white people. The Chief Justice of the Court was Earl Warren and the decision came after the district court ruled the separate schools constitutional. This decision lead to widespread desegregation overseen by district courts. The desegregation process was slow and lead to many conflicts including the Little Rock Nine.
