After the French and Indian War, numerous Indian uprisings threatened British settlements along the western frontier. In order to combat the expensive defense of the region, the British issued the Proclamation of 1763, declaring the region to be under Indian control; however, many colonists would ignore this decree and settle anyway, defending themselves against any Indian invasion.
