31 juill. 2010 - Fujifilm F300 EXR (First Camera to Use On-sensor Phase Detecton)

Description:

The Fujifilm F300EXR, announced on 31 July 2010, was one of the first compact cameras to utilize a technology known as on-sensor phase detection autofocus (AF) where two strips of sensor elements (sensels) capture light from the left and right of the lens respectively and calculates the offset created by being off-focus. Fujiflim claimed that this camera can focus within 0.158 seconds. The previous compact and mirrorless cameras used contrast detection AF, where the lens moves back and forth until the camera finds a position that gives the greatest contrast (indicating the camera being in focus). This had the downside of requiring trial-and-error (more calculations) which leads to the difficulty of continuous AF where one has to continuously calculate the focus. Most digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLRs) at the time used a dedicated phase detection AF sensor. Fujifilm could innovate the existing sensel to remove the requirement of a dedicated sensor.
