Romes first conquest were over the various tribes and Greek colonies of Italy.In November 2004, a Greek farmer in the town of Orchomenus, Greece chanced upon an important find in his cotton fields: a monumental column meant to commemorate the victory of Roman forces under Lucius Cornelius Sulla over the armies of King Mithradates VI Eupator of Pontus in 85 BCE.
