26 oct. 264 av. J.-C. - Roman Wars with Carthage

Description:

While the three wars Rome fought with Carthage, commonly referred to as the Punic Wars, made the reputations of such famous generals as Scipio Africanus the Elder and Hannibal and politicians like Cato the Elder, its historical significance rests on the outcome of the long struggle. At the conclusion of the Third Punic War in 146 BCE, the Roman Republic emerged as master of the western Mediterranean Sea, leaving its rival Carthage, the former power in the western sea, in ruins.
