General Sherman of the union with his 60000 troops, led a devastating raid of Georgia where he and his troops would burn crop fields, houses and kill Confederate soldiers. Many people after witnessing this believed the confederacy had no chance in the war. He marched all the way from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia on the Atlantic ocean.
