Description:
The Carlsbad Decrees were the result of the ministerial conferences held in Carlsbad from August 6 to 31, 1819, in which the most influential states in the German Confederation took part. They banned nationalist fraternities ("Burschenschaften"), removed liberal university professors, and expanded the censorship of the press. They were aimed at quelling a growing sentiment for German unification.
