Description:

During the early 1850's the Whig Party was facing the repercussions of the Compromise of 1850 and the party was split 50/50, half wanted slavery, half wanted abolition. Finally in 1855 the party disbanded because the disputes over how slavery should be approached in the new territories. This helped lead to the Civil war because the people formerly of the Whig party joined the republicans and democrats and added fuel to the fire that was their slavery disputes.
