The Magna Carta was one of the first documents in human history granting rights to certain groups of people. Up until this point whoever held power was completely above the law and everyone else was subject to their judgment. After a suto Civil War in the Kingdom of England the Barons of King John demanded that they be given a charter of fundamental rights and privileges like John's predecessors have wrote. The Magna Carta granted certain rights and privledges to the nobility of England that no other document had before. This is included but not limited to The Right to Trial and The Separation of Church and state. However the most important right this document guarantees is it allows all Free Citizens of England the right to own property. These all culminate in a document that paves the pathway for the progressive Culture we see in British history.
