1 janv. 1537 - Tiento del Primer Tono, Tiento 1

Description:

Composer: Antonio de Cabezón

This piece was composed between 1535-40. Tiento: “An improvisatory-style piece that often featured imitation, akin to the sixteenth-century [fugue]”. The tiento is known for its improvisatory style and derives its contrapuntal and harmonic structure from the motet. The tiento is an example of an “abstract instrumental work” which emerged during the Renaissance musical period. This new musical style later became a noteworthy feature of Iberian organ music during the 17th and 18th centuries, partially due to Cabezón’s tiento writing.
