1 janv. 1355 - Rose, liz, printemps, verdure (NAWM 28)

Description:

Composer: Machaut

This piece was composed sometime during the mid 1300s. Its title translates to “Rose, lily, spring, greenery”, and is a chanson (which is french for 'song'). It is in rondeau form(ABaAabAB), and, while it has multiple parts, only the cantus has words. The piece compares nature to sweetness of his lady, and nature has been found wanting. Machaut may have added the triplum later, as the earliest manuscript (1350s) does not have it.
