1 janv. 1801 - 2. Marbury vs Madison

Description:

*Adams, having been voted out of office, in a last ditch effort did what would come to be known as the Midnight appointments.* What Adams did was appoint a bunch of Federalist judges to try to preserve Federalist power. One of these appointees was William Marbury, who was not given the job under the Jeffersonian regime. Marbury sued, and the case went to the Supreme court. This case is important because Chief Justice Marshall gave the Supreme court the power of Judicial Review, which said that the Supreme Court had the power to declare a Federal Law as unconstitutional. This case helped define what the Supreme Court would become.
