Description:

William Marbury sued James Madison because Madison did not deliver **his commission as a judiciary appointee to one of the positions from the Judiciary Act of 1801.**The Supreme Court ruled it had power to declare a law unconstitutional. This case began the Federalist Legacy in Courts. McCullough vs. Maryland allowed the courts to interpret the constitution to give broad powers to the national government. Gibbons vs Ogden gave the federal government jurisdiction over interstate commerce.
