Description:
**After the rejection, by the British, of Petitions made in the Second Continental Congress,** the colonies and Britain were in a full-scale war by 1775. A Committee of Five was chosen to draft the Declaration of Independence. Ultimately, Thomas Jefferson wrote it. Independence became a wide spread and celebrated ideal in American society. This created pride and belief in the nation and government that the colonies were trying to establish.
