Description:

"When Virginia was being colonized, tobacco became a really popular cash crop to be sold." The people who owned the land, needed people to farm it because they would always plant more. The Headright system came into play when the Virginia company would give fifty acres to anybody who paid for an immigrant to come over to the new world. This would then transition into indentured servitude which was when a poor English person would give themselves to a person in the colonies for about four to seven years.
