1 h 54 min, 4 oct. 1957 ans - Sputnik 1 Is Launched!
Description:
Sputnik was the first man-made satellite in space. It sent radio waves back to earth, which helped scientists understand the ionosphere.
The ionosphere is a layer of the Earth's upper atmosphere that is full of ionized particles as a result of radiation from the sun. The charged particles in the ionosphere create Earth's magnetic field.
This was the beginning of space travel from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. Today, many launches and descents occur in this region.
