1 juill. 1871 - Aftermath of Unification: Germany
Description:
With Germany officially united, separate from Austria, major power shifts occurred in Europe. The end of the Franco-Prussian War marked the end of French military domination in Europe, as the newly formed German Empire replaced France as the dominant military power in this region. The war also left great tensions between France and Germany, which would resurface as one of the causes of the First World War. This war additionally distracted French troops from the Pope in Rome, allowing for simultaneous Italian unification.
